Global Food and Agricultural Technology Laboratory
Graduate School of Engineering

About
The Global Food and Agricultural Technology Laboratory aims to enhance the quality of agricultural food products in terms of nutrition, sensory properties, and functional benefits. Our primary focus is on the improvement of underexplored and underutilized food resources, as well as upcycling waste, to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient food production system. By applying various food processing techniques and integrating multidisciplinary technologies through international collaboration, we strive to establish a platform to accelerate food innovation. We hope to contribute not only to scientific advancement but also to practical industrial applications.
Our goal is to address global challenges outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). In addition to advancing research, we are dedicated to nurturing and developing skilled human resources to become future international leaders in food and agricultural technology. Through comprehensive training, mentorship, and collaborative opportunities, we aim to equip researchers with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive innovation and solve global food and agricultural issues.
Present Research Topics

Sastia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Osaka, Japan. Her research focuses on food metabolomics and biotechnology, particularly the identification of bioactive compounds in foods and their relationships with human health.
She received her undergraduate degree from the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia, in 2004 and joined the UNESCO Postgraduate Inter-University Course in Biotechnology, during which she conducted research at Osaka University. She returned as a graduate student in the International Program of Frontier Biotechnology and earned her Ph.D. in 2010.

Prama
Putri

In January 2011, Dr. Putri joined the metabolomics laboratory of Professor Eiichiro Fukusaki as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2014, she was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Center for the Advancement of Research and Education Exchange Networks (CAREN), where she contributed to the development of international double-degree programs. She and her team successfully launched three programs and received the Osaka University Prize in Education in 2018. She became a tenured Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology in 2017.
Her research involves large-scale metabolomic analysis of plants and food products using advanced techniques, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, spectroscopy, compound purification, and statistical analysis. She actively collaborates with industry and international research institutions and has established multiple research partnerships.
She also contributed to a pioneering study on the metabolomics-based authentication of Kopi Luwak, which gained international recognition. Through her research and education, Dr. Putri continues to advance functional food development and evidence-based nutritional interventions.
